Statistička nomenklatura prostornih jedinica koju je definirao Europski statistički ured (Eurostat) kako bi stvorio jedinstvenu i koherentnu strukturu za teritorijalnu raspodjelu. Koristi se od 1988. godine u zakonodavstvu Zajednice vezanom na strukturne fondove. Postoje tri razine klasifikacije definirane prema veličini i broju stanovnika na određenom području (NUTS 1, NUTS 2, NUTS 3) koje se koriste za definiranje prihvatljivosti neke regije za financiranje iz instrumenata kohezijske politike. Kohezijski fond koristi NUTS1, ERDF koristi NUTS 2, ESF koristi NUTS 2 i 3, a Europska teritorijalna suradnja koristi NUTS 3. Eurostat je odobrio NUTS klasifikaciju za Hrvatsku u ožujku 2007. godine
Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics established by the European Office for Statistics (Eurostat) in order to create a single and coherent structure of territorial distribution. It has been used in the Community legislation pertaining to the Structural Funds since 1988. There are three levels of the classification defined by the siže and population in a certain area (NUTS level 1, NUTS level 2 and NUTS level 3) which are used for defining eligibility of regions under the Cohesion Policy Instruments. The Cohesion Fund uses NUTS level 1, the ERDF uses NUTS level 2, the ESF uses NUTS levels 2 and 3, and the European Territorial Cooperation uses NUTS level 3. For Croatia Eurostat has approved NUTS classification in March 2007.
