Opening Ceremony of the Twinning Light Project

The purpose of this project is to support Croatian institutions in conducting expert work related to Ecological Network Impact Assessment (ENIA) in order to ensure more efficient implementation of the existing legislative framework (Habitats Directive) in line with the best EU practices.

The Republic of Croatia, as a member of the EU must continue to take the necessary measures to ensure efficient implementation and enforcement of the EU environmental acquis.

One of the provisions of the EU nature protection regime is to set up a network of protected areas, called Natura 2000. Plans or projects which can harm those Natura 2000 sites have to be assessed in respect of their likely affects on the sites. Authorization of such developments may only be granted if there is no significant negative impact on such Natura 2000 sites.

The project, with a budget of 188,889 EUR, is financed by the European Union under the IPA Programme and co-financed by the Republic of Croatia and will last six months. The project will be implemented by the State Institute for Nature Protection and the Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt).
