Project designed to strengthen and enhance Croatian Tax Administration's IT function launched
A twinning project designed to strengthen and enhance the Croatian Tax Administration's IT function so that it could meet EU standards in the VAT field was presented in Zagreb on Tuesday. The project is designed to establish functional VIES (Value Added Tax Information Exchange System) and VES (Value Added Tax on e-Services) systems for the purpose of effective communication with other EU member states' systems.

Project on VAT information exchange presented
The Finance Ministry Tax Administration and IBM Croatia on Monday presented a project on the obligatory development of the VIES system for the exchange of information on Value Added Tax. The project was co-financed by the European Commission as part of the PHARE 2005 programme in order to prepare and adjust Croatia's VAT system to that in European Union countries.

EU-funded police reform project formally closed
The European Commission Delegation in Croatia and the Croatian Ministry of the Interior on Friday formally marked the closing of the PHARE 2005 twinning project "Strengthening Human Resources Management, Education and Training at the Ministry of the Interior - Police Academies", the purpose of which was to reform the Interior Ministry in the process of Croatia's accession to the European Union.

Closing event for CARDS 2004 project for Croatian metrology held in Zagreb
On the occasion of World Metrology Day, the results of the CARDS 2004 programme "Development of National Metrology, Standardisation, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation System" were presented in Zagreb on Wednesday. The project took 37 months to complete. The budget for technical assistance was EUR 700,000, and the European Commission provided over EUR 850,000 for the equipment.
