Closing Ceremony of the Twinning Project “Supporting the Inspection Services for Transportation of Passengers and Goods”

The final conference of the EU Twinning project “Supporting the Inspection Services for Transportation of Passengers and Goods” (MK 22 IPA TR 01 24) took place in Skopje on 7 October 2026, marking the successful conclusion of the two-year project launched in October 2024.

With a total budget of EUR 1.3 million, the project was funded by the European Union under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA). It aimed to strengthen the institutional and operational capacities of the transport inspection services of the Republic of North Macedonia and to align national legislation and inspection procedures with the European Union acquis.

The project was implemented in partnership between the Republic of Poland, as the lead Member State, and the Republic of Croatia, as the Junior Member State. Croatia was represented by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, while the Central Finance and Contracting Agency for EU Programmes and Projects (SAFU) was responsible for the administrative and financial management of the Croatian component of the project.

Throughout the project’s implementation, Croatian experts participated in numerous activities involving professional training, the exchange of experience and knowledge transfer in the fields of road transport, inspection supervision, road infrastructure safety and the application of European standards. Study visits to the Republic of Croatia were also organised, giving representatives of North Macedonia the opportunity to learn from Croatian experience and best practices.

The Croatian Project Leader was Miroslav Lelas from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, who coordinated the implementation of project activities in cooperation with Polish and North Macedonian partners.

The final conference was attended by senior representatives of the partner institutions and the European Union, as well as diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Poland.

The successful completion of the project further reaffirmed the importance of international cooperation and knowledge transfer in supporting the Republic of North Macedonia’s alignment with European Union standards.
