PHARE project on export control presented

The purpose of this EUR 250,000 project is to assist the Croatian Customs Administration in developing and introducing the new computerised customs system — the Export Control System (ECS) — in order to adjust the Croatian customs system to EU standards. The duration of the project is six months.

The ECS, which the EU introduced in 2007, is designed to improve control of indirect exports, notably consignments which are declared for export at a location within one member state and which exit the EU through another member state, as well as to implement EU safety and security regulations.

The system is expected to simplify customs procedures, ensure greater efficiency of customs authorities, facilitate trade and speed up cross-border traffic.

Countries acceding to full EU membership are supposed to have the ECS in place on the day of accession. (Hina)
